Announcement

At the time I'm writing this, it's been way over a year since any meaningful content was posted to this forum. Also, the last and final version of I Hate Mountains was released almost three years ago. Which is why I believe it is time to definitely pull the plug on this forum which is going to remain in a readonly format from now on.

A warm 'thank you' to everyone that contributed to this project in a way or another! If you really need to contact the team, feel free to shoot us an email, our contact information is right here : http://www.ihatemountains.com/contact-us/

My Impressions

I was totally blown away by how awesome this was. The mazey tunnels part were amazing, a bit confusing, yes but definitely amazing.
The only place where i got stuck was at the lumberyard where i was supposed to activate the crane.

I really liked the dark environment, not too dark but definitely darker than Valve's maps which i liked.

The only thing which kinda disturbed me was that Francis's "I hate mountains" line was missing. I mean, i thought Valve did that line for you oO

They did, but it's only available in Left 4 Dead 2.

Re: My Impressions

Weeeell... technically speaking, Francis is now in L4D2, in The Passing DLC.
We didn't slice existing lines to make new ones because we would have to do it in all existing languages for the game. We just arranged them in different way and used them out of their original context. The Canada-related lines where in the Crash Course update, never heard them in the game though.

Well they were meant to be included with the campaign, just like the "I hate jungles" and "I hate malls" lines were in Night terror and Dead before dawn.

Re: My Impressions

Easier said than done, we would need a version for all the languages available, we would need the subtitles for all the languages available and we would need lip-syncing to make the survivors talk. This is just something we can't do with the tools Valve give us.

Re: My Impressions

The localized versions can be found in any l4d2 version i think.
And subtitles...Well thats something you can live without for one line.

As for the lip sync, just use a standard "i hate" scene.

Re: My Impressions

No, you didn't understand, this is not something we can do in a custom campaign at all (lip-syncing and subtitles). Also, we can't embed every language version because as far as I know, this is not something we can do with a custom campaign either. We'd rather not use it at all than make it look cheap.

Re: My Impressions

Subtitles you cant, but lip syncing should be possible with a new scene. I mean, Dead before dawn did it.

Re: My Impressions

If they did it, then it might be possible. But lip-syncing wasn't my primary concern as a non-native English speaker.

Re: My Impressions

Well its not really necessary to do complex lip syncing.
"I hate walking" looks similar enough to "I hate mountains"

EDIT: No need to...i just found out all the scenes for the community files are in left 4 dead 2, means you dont have to do lip syncing, its done for you.
its in left 4 dead 2/left4dead2_dlc/scenes/biker

The subtitles are there too but until valve enables custom subtitles i guess we can live without, but the lipsyncing is there, so are the sounds...Should be possible tbh.

Re: My Impressions

Like I said, lip-syncing wasn't my primary concern.
We won't add something that has no subtitles. That may seem retarded to you because english is not your primary language and maybe you don't care about other languages, but I do.

Re: My Impressions

You can perhaps use hints as a subtitle?
Also maybe its possible to make custom subtitles?

Re: My Impressions

No, sorry but our decision is rock-solid here, we won't include it.
As I already said, we'd rather not use it at all than make it look cheap.
Moreover, it's totally not worth the amount of work required to try to make it work cheaply.

Re: My Impressions

Oh well, I don't count on it.
I'm not even sure I can count on the whole DLC to be honest.

Re: My Impressions

Well one can hope that with this new challenger (and by that I mean IHM) Valve might try and do their best for this hypothetical dlc campaign especially with their new gameplay element (the sacrificial event) but honestly two months after The Passing and without a single word on the matter I, too, begin to doubt its very existence.
But still, only time will tell (Valve time, that is).

Re: My Impressions

Well at least your l4d2 edition can have that voiceclip and the l4d1 survivors too.
